Ever wonder why catfish is called 'catfish'? Cats eat fishes, so why put their name together?
Catfish is named as they have a pair of barbel's which resembles a cat's whiskers.
This is a normal catfish size:
This is what I call a GIANT catfish
It resembles a shark eh? This giant is found in Mekong, Thailand in the year 2005. It weighs about 646 pounds. Huge. There are rumours that it eats human, but it states from some web that it eats small monkeys, cats, birds and other catfish. Catching this huge fish is dangerous because it can drag you in to the water and drown you instead.
Do you think these amazing giants can survive for another few decades so that our grandchildren can see it as well? What if the catfish grows bigger? Yikes..
Another fish which is also a giant is the Pirarucu. It is known as the world's largest fresh water fish. It swims up to breath air, unlike most fish which can breath in water. This fish can be found in Malaysia itself. In 2009, it was reported to be sighted in Terengganu and was named 'Kenyir Monster'. the locals believed that it was responsible for the mysterious drowning of two men.
The meat of this fish is said to be delicious. Else, the tongue is know to posses medicinal qualities and used to kill intestinal worms.
Thats all for my first interesting fish that I found out a few days ago.
